How Does CoolSculpting® work?

The CoolSculpting procedure is a revolutionary procedure for the safe and non-invasive removal of unwanted fat in stubborn areas of the body. It is most commonly used to remove fat from the abdomen, love handles and back. As a result of aging, pregnancy, genetics and hormonal influences many individuals accumulate fat in these specific areas over time. Since one cannot target fat loss in specific body parts these areas are difficult to reduce with either diet or exercise.

Dr. Brezel, a board certified dermatologist, performs the procedure in his office in Glendale, New York. Dr. Brezel was one of the first physicians in the New York area to perform this groundbreaking method for the removal of unwanted fat.

How CoolSculpting Works

The CoolSculpting procedure reduces fat by an innovative procedure approved by the FDA, called cryolipolysis. Cryolipolysis is the elimination of fat by the use of cold. The procedure entails the use of a non-invasive applicator to deliver cooling to a chosen area in a precisely controlled method. Because the procedure is non-invasive no anesthesia is necessary and no downtime is required after the procedure. As a result of the cooling, fat inside the cells will crystallize causing the fat cells to secrete a chemical that will cause them to be removed. Over time these fat cells will be gradually cleared through a safe natural biologic process called apoptosis. Apoptosis is the natural biologic process through which the body uses to clear damaged cells. Apoptosis is a biologic process that occurs on an ongoing basis. The removal of the fat and fat cells will result in a reduction of the thickness of the fat in the treated areas. Because fat cells are more susceptible to cold, Dr. Brezel will be able to treat the unwanted fat without damaging other tissues.
