Watch How CoolSculpting Works

The CoolSculpting procedure is a revolutionary procedure for the safe and non-invasive removal of unwanted fat in stubborn areas of the body. It is most commonly used to remove fat from the abdomen, love handles and back. As a result of aging, pregnancy, genetics and hormonal influences many individuals accumulate fat in these specific areas over time. Since one cannot target fat loss in specific body parts these areas are difficult to reduce with either diet or exercise. Dr. Brezel, a board certified dermatologist, performs the procedure in his office in Glendale, New York. Dr. Brezel is one of the first physicians in the New York area to be performing this groundbreaking method for the removal of unwanted fat.

The CoolSculpting procedure reduces fat by an innovative procedure approved by the FDA, called cryolipolysis. Cryolipolysis is the elimination of fat by the use of cold. The concept of cryolipolysis was developed at the Wellman Center of Massachusetts General Hospital, which is affiliated with the Harvard Medical School. The procedure entails the use of a non-invasive applicator to deliver precise cooling to a chosen area in a carefully controlled method. Because fat cells are more susceptible to cold, Dr Brezel will be able to treat the unwanted tissue, fat without damaging other tissues, such as skin, blood vessels and nerves.

After Dr. Brezel applies the applicator to the chosen area he will control the rate of cooling, adjusting it your individual requirements. Because the procedure is non-invasive no anesthesia is necessary and no downtime is required. As a result of the cooling, the fat inside the cells will crystallize causing the fat cells to be removed. The cooling of the fat will lead to the release of cytokines and other inflammatory mediators that will signal the body to remove these cells

by a process called apoptosis. Apoptosis is the natural biologic process, which the body uses to clear damaged cells. Apoptosis is an ongoing normal biologic process that the body uses to clear aging cells. The fat, or lipids, will be cleared by the lymphatic system in the same manner that the body uses to clear dietary fats. Studies have shown that patients treated with the CoolSculpting procedure do not experience increases in their cholesterol or triglyceride levels. The removal of the fat and fat cells will result in a reduction of the thickness of the fat in the treated areas. Since natural biological processes remove the fat and fat cells, results are generally seen somewhere between the second to fourth month after the procedure.
